Angels are Aware Hunger Banquet Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 5:00 PM Belk Dining Hall We're All In This Together!Let's get together to support our community and fight food insecurity. 41% of students at Meredith College are impacted by food insecurity. 18% of those students may go hungry. Together we can fix this and help build a stronger future for all of us. Join us for an address from our keynote speaker Dr. Joseph Ewoodzie, Jr. author of Getting Something to Eat in Jackson, followed by an open mic night of poetry relating to hunger. Keynote Speaker Dr. Joseph Ewoodzie, JrAs an Associate Professor of Sociology and Vann Professor of Racial Justice at Davidson College in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Ewoodzie helps to provide his students with the tools to understand the social world around them. His focus of study is centered around belonging and its connections with culture, boundaries, inequalities, and blackness. He is the author of the recently published book, Getting Something to Eat in Jackson: Race, Class, and Food in The American South. Through this book Dr. Ewoodzie utilizes food as a means to explore the complex relationship between race and class in the everyday lives of African Americans in the urban South.
