Childbirth class led by Leslie McFarlane, a doula, childbirth educator and birth center administrator
Family Connection Chiropractic is excited to host this childbirth education class. We are a space that empowers pregnant people and families with options centered around birth. Class topics include: basic birth overview, anatomy, mechanics, emotions during labor, nutrition, optimal positioning for pregnancy and labor, postpartum period, birth plan outlining.
Leslie is a doula, childbirth educator and birth center administrator. Like many, her journey to birth work and birth justice began with her first pregnancy seven years ago. It became very clear that there were huge gaps in her healthcare experience being a black mother and woman of color. Two years after her pregnancy she began a Perinatal Education program with the Midwest Maternal Institute and obtained Doula Certification, Birth Educator Certification, and Lactation Support Certification. Soon after, she joined the Chicago Volunteer Doulas board and non profit organization with the goal of working directly with POC and adolescent pregnancy, while fighting to reduce the black infant and maternal mortality rate in the US. She is currently a birth center administrator and teaching childbirth education while supporting families at the San Diego Community Birth Center.
Leslie believes in a person's innate ability to birth naturally. “I believe in women. I teach my clients how to empower themselves with childbirth education and provide tools to advocate for themselves in a hospital or birth center setting. In my classes, I hope to make you feel confident in your ability to birth and create a balanced scale for you to rest your worries. To give you unbiased, complete information so you can make the best decisions for you and your baby.”
