KENNEL ATTENDANT MULTIPLE POSITIONS, POSSIBLE LIVE-IN OPPORTUNITY JOB DESCRIPTION Small family farm looking for responsible animal lover and professional for part-time, contract (1099) help with dogs. Looking for a serious professional who can help us care for our preservation-breed, show dogs. An ideal candidate is probably someone who has experience as a vet tech, boarding attendant, groomer, or farm hand. Other ideal experience may include caring for livestock or horses, growing up on a ranch, or any experience doing serious labor. This position will provide the right candidate the opportunity to learn how to manage preservation-breed animals, including training dogs for competition, showing dogs, grooming dogs, raising animals with holistic and natural approaches, and the science behind care and rearing. For someone seriously interested in these aspects of the job, there is an enormous opportunity for mentorship, education, training, and learning. A local candidate looking for a long-term partnership in these activities would be a bonus. Successful candidate must be an EXTREMELY detail-oriented person who can actively maintain the sanitation and safety of animals in the face of tight schedules and multi-tasking with many responsibilities. Reliability and responsibility are essential. Arriving late or forgetting to do things are unacceptable in any job. But the consequences of neglect with animals cannot happen ever. The right candidate will understand the burden of care required for animals and this position. Must be comfortable with large and different animals on the farm.. Qualities of hard work, honesty, and teamwork will be very beneficial to this position. Locals only; preference for candidates in Poulsbo, WA. Potentially looking for more than one candidate to have weekend coverage and overlapping schedules. Core schedule is currently part-time, 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Weekend coverage desired. Please specify in your application if you are willing to work weekends. Please also specify if you can be flexible with your weekly schedule and available for emergency situations during irregular hours. There is the potential for more available hours for candidates who work hard and desire to expand position. Potentially looking for long-term, live-in caretaker for this position. Any such possibility would depend on showing value and trustworthiness in the part-time position first for an extended period. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Walking and exercising dogs. Feeding, watering, and managing dietary concerns. Grooming: bathing, nail trims, dental cleaning, etc. Cleaning pens or crates. Doing laundry for bedding. Cleaning bowls. Cleaning and maintenance of buildings. Training: obedience, show, agility, rally. Other duties as assigned by Farm Manager and/or Owner; due to the varied responsibilities candidates should be flexible and work well with some changing or varied responsibilities every day. QUALIFICATIONS: ABSOLUTELY NO drugs, marijuana, alcohol, tobacco, or vaping. Must be extraordinarily punctual and reliable. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Good communication skills. Must respect and maintain confidentiality. Comfortable with many sizes and types of animals. Minimum basic animal care knowledge and experience. Must be able to work some weekends or available to help in emergencies. PREFERRED / DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledgeable about dog behavior, management, and training. Professional or significant experience working with dogs, animals, and livestock. Desire to learn about many different types of animals and management techniques. Willingness to work evenings, holidays, or overnight.
