This training will provide novice and intermediate clinicians with all the fundamentals to offer evidence-based CBT. Program Overview Cognitive behavioral therapy has long been considered the “gold standard” treatment in treatment of a variety of psychiatric disorders. Many of today’s clinicians claim that they do “some cbt,” but lack the finer skills in practicing true conceptualization-based treatment. This training will provide novice and intermediate clinicians with all the fundamentals to offer evidence-based CBT to their clients to help them not only get better in the short-term, but prevent relapse in the long run. Learning Objectives • Socialize clients to the CBT model of psychotherapy in a way that elicits client buy-in • Develop an understanding of the 3 levels of human cognition and implications for intervening at each • Learn the 18 maladaptive schemas that drive all problem behavior • Utilize behavioral pattern breaking to help clients end life-long destructive cycles • Utilize cognitive conceptualization to drive case formulation, agenda setting, treatment planning, and documentation • Gain in-depth of 10 cognitive distortions and how each specifically affects emotions and contributes to symptoms, and learn effective intervention strategies for treating each • Develop an understanding of the cognitive model of depression, and learn 7 strategies for improving mood and preventing relapse • Master the cognitive model of anxiety and learn 10 cognitive and behavioral skills for helping clients face their fears, tolerate distress, and turn off false alarms so they can regain their peace • Participate in integrative case study for client with borderline personality disorder, incorporating DBT, CBT and schema-focused elements to de-escalate crisis and facilitate long-term thinking and behavior change Meet the Speaker Jeff Riggenbach, PhD is a best-selling and award-winning author who has earned a reputation as an international expert in cognitive approaches to treating personality disorders. Over a period of 20 years, he has developed and overseen CBT-based treatment programs for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addictive behavior disorders and personality disorders at two different psychiatric hospitals and clinics serving over 3,000 clients at multiple levels of care. Dr. Riggenbach trained at the Beck Institute of Cognitive Therapy and Research in Philadelphia, is a Diplomat of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and is a certified cognitive therapist.
