Description

SOUTH ELGIN, IL — South Elgin residents and businesses will receive reduced water bills over the next two months, the result of a unanimous Village Board vote Monday night that approved a $30 credit on bills arriving in June and July. The measure is intended to lessen the financial pressure on residents and businesses who are suffering during the coronavirus outbreak. The ordinance, which was introduced earlier this month by Village President Steve Ward, states that, "the Village is aware of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic upon its residents and desires to afford some relief." The relief on water bills will affect nearly 9,000 residential and commercial units in South Elgin. The cost to the village is estimated at $526,000. In remarks to the Chicago Tribune, Ward said he hopes residents "consider taking this money and spending it on our local businesses."
