WALTHAM, MA — Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark has issued a statement in response to Tuesday's State of the Union applauding President Joe Biden's leadership at home and abroad.
Clark, who serves Waltham and the rest of the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts, said the nation has made much progress since Biden took office just over a year ago.
"In the year since President Biden took office, our nation has made tremendous progress in combatting the pandemic and bringing our economy back from the brink. Unemployment is down and wages are up – and this is no coincidence," said Clark. "Congressional Democrats have worked in partnership with President Biden to answer the American people with real solutions. We have provided free vaccines, reopened schools, lowered health care costs, created jobs, and re-established our leadership on the global stage at a time of great conflict and urgency."
"As the President outlined, we must continue to meet these historically challenging times with historic progress," she continued. "Together, we have set forth an agenda that will lower child care costs for parents, tackle the climate crisis, reduce the cost of insulin and prescription drugs, and expand access to quality, affordable health care."
"Tonight, President Biden spoke directly to every American who is worried about high costs and international unrest and provided empathy and a plan of action to fight for everyday families. Tomorrow, we will continue our work to build a better America where every woman, worker, and child can succeed."
