Description

A talk by Eddie Page, presented in-person at Trinity United Methodist Church and by Zoom Guest speaker Eddie Page will discuss Florida Legislator George Nesmith's efforts in helping to assure Wakulla County's economic survival during the 1943 legislative session. Deprived of its annual share of Florida racetrack funds as the result of the closing of the tracks by federal mandate - the county faced insolvency and possible annexation to Leon County. Through Nesmith's efforts Wakulla (and the state's other small counties) was able to restore itself to a sound economic footing avoiding catastrophe. About Eddie Page A native of Tallahassee, his family has resided in Wakulla County through 7 generations. He has lived in Wakulla Station since 1983. Eddie received a Master's in History from Florida State University in 1994. He has worked at FSU since 1988, currently serving as the Director of Student Services for the College of Fine Arts . Arcadia Publishing printed "Wakulla County in its Images of America" series which he put together in 2001. Another of Eddie's projects is documenting the history of the mullet seine fishery in Wakulla County. He has delivered two previous presentations to the THS - one on the West Goose Creek seine yard and another on the early origins of the Tallahassee Fire Department.
