FALMOUTH, MA — The Falmouth Police Department awarded Det. David Massi with the 2021 Officer of the Year Award for what police say likely prevented a shooting at the Pier 37 Boat House last summer. On Aug. 28, 2021, the Barnstable County Communications Center received a 911 call from the Scranton Avenue restaurant. Police said the call was hung up, and shouting could be heard in the background of the call. Massi said the scene was chaotic upon arrival. Pier 37 Boathouse security staff told police they were assaulted, and knife gun threats were made by a group of men, who police later identified as Marckell Gordon, 20, of Lynn, Terron Jackson Jr., 23, of Harwich, and Jamual Sims, 22, of Wareham. Police said the men were in a vehicle in the parking lot, and when Massi approached, one of the men tried hiding a gun. "The group was belligerent and rowdy. Det. Massi had found guns in the car that he was with and that he had suspects detained.," police said in a statement about Massi's award." Police said they were outnumbered by the supects, who were agitated and appeared itching to fight. Massi called for backup, and Mashpee police and Massachusetts State Police came to help him and stayed until order was restored. "There is a very real possibility that Det. Massi's quick thinking and fast actions prevented a shooting from occurring on this night," police said.
