LEESBURG, VA — Authorities filed reckless driving charges against a driver in connection with a crash that injured two pedestrians in Leesburg last month. Authorities announced charges against 76-year-old Gene Harrison on Friday. The crash occurred outside of the Leesburg police station around 6 p.m. on Feb. 2. A first car stopped on Plaza Street NE so two women could use the crosswalk, police said. A second car didn't stop. The second car crashed into the rear of the first car, which then hit the two pedestrians, police said. The officer and bystanders in the area worked together to lift the vehicle off the woman and free her, according to the police report. Police officers provided first aid to the woman until responders from the fire and rescue system arrived to provide further medical assistance. The two pedestrians and the driver who stopped for them were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. After the crash, the driver and one of the pedestrians were treated for minor injuries. The other driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police, according to a report from the police department. The injured people are still recovering from their injuries, police said.
