We are looking for Certified Lifeguards for Walnut Beach, Gulf Beach, Hawley Beach & Anchor Beach between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day. Lifeguards must be 16 years old by the start of their first shift. Those who are not currently certified as a lifeguard may still apply if they will be certified by June 21st. All Summer Camp Staff MUST be available to work on the Fourth of July. The 2022 Lifeguard season begins on Memorial Day Weekend and ends on Labor Day weekend. Applications are available upon request (email [email protected]) and at the Milford Recreation office. Applications must be turned in by March 15, 2022 at 4:00 PM. POSITION SUMMARY: The lifeguard has a professional and moral obligation to prevent potential accidents and dangerous situations by enforcing the rules and regulations of the Milford Recreation facilities and reacting to emergencies that may occur. Lifeguard primary responsibility of protecting lives by constantly scanning the aquatic facility to recognize swimmers in distress, wearing rescue tube and carrying mask/gloves while on stand or patrolling aquatic area edge. Lifeguard maintains aquatic area. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Guards are responsible for the hours in which they are scheduled. Lifeguard will arrive a minimum of 10 minutes prior to their scheduled shift time. Once shift begins, guard is already on the lifeguard stand. Maintains active and aggressive surveillance of all waterfront areas. Checks for waterfront area for hazardous conditions when arriving, throughout shift, and at shift completion. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the waterfront. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Milford Recreation policies and procedures. Once complete, will complete related reports as required. Administers First aid, CPR, AED, and emergency oxygen (if certified) when needed without hesitation. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner, while being professional at all times. Lifeguard will be in proper uniform for entire shift. Guards must wear: whistle, hip pack containing CPR mask and gloves, Red Lifeguard Shirt, and red/black lifeguard shorts. Lifeguard's cell phone will not be on their person at any time during their shifts that they are on surveillance duty. The lifeguard will help maintain social distancing and may, if necessary, move swimmers to different areas if a situation warrants. If a staff member has a personal problem or grievance or a problem with a member it should be brought to the attention of a supervisor. The lifeguard MUST attend all staff meetings and training events. The lifeguard will NEVER leave the beaches unattended for any reason.
