West Suburban Humane Society Gives Back Amid Coronavirus

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The West Suburban Humane Society recently donated items to help two other Illinois shelters during the new coronavirus crisis. The donations to PAWS (Protecting Animal Welfare Society) in Jacksonville and Illinois Animal Rescue in Bloomingdale, Illinois, included several hundred pounds of food and pet supplies, in addition to furniture and other fixtures. The donations come after West Suburban Humane Society moved into its new facility in March. The transition to the new facility, which was made possible in part through a GoFundMe campaign, was made quietly due to the coronavirus shutdown, West Suburban Humane Society officials said in a news release. The transition allowed for the donation of furniture and fixtures that included cages from the old adoption center. West Suburban Humane Society Executive Director Carolyn Mossberger said in the news release, "Everyone is hurting right now, as donations are down all over. We wanted to take this opportunity to share what we have with our more rural shelters partners and pay it forward." West Suburban Humane Society will open for appointment-only adoptions as of May 1, according to spokesperson Julia Shell. They are currently accepting monetary donations and items via Amazon's wish list.
