PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A 17-year-old from Washington, D.C., has been arrested and charged as an adult in the Feb. 26 murder of 71-year-old Abdul Rauf Khan of Springfield, Virginia. Khan, a longtime Springfield restaurant owner who was driving for Lyft, was shot and his body discarded on a street in Hillcrest Heights after suspects took his car. On March 1, police officers spied Khan's stolen vehicle in Landover. There were two teens and one adult in the vehicle who were all taken into custody. The 17-year-old male charged with Khan's murder confessed to shooting the victim during the carjacking. Police believe Khan picked up the teen as a fare in Washington, D.C. He's been charged with first-degree murder and carjacking. Another 17-year-old male from Washington, D.C. also was taken into custody. He's been charged in connection with a carjacking on Marlboro Pike that happened hours after Khan's murder. Khan's stolen vehicle was used in that carjacking. The adult found in Khan's vehicle, 19-year-old Daquan Childs of Washington, D.C., has been charged with the unauthorized use of a vehicle. "Mr. Khan's murder broke the hearts of not only his family but residents across our region. I hope the arrest of the person responsible brings a level of comfort to his loved ones. I am proud of the work our of homicide unit as well as units assigned to our strategic investigations division. They worked together with an unwavering commitment of finding Mr. Khan's killer," Prince George's County Police Chief Malik Aziz said. Abdul Khan's wife Saba Raul spoke with 7News about her pain and grief from what's being considered a senseless act. "My life is gone. He's not going to come home anymore," she said. "He was just on the road with three shots in his body. I can't even...he was just there on the road calling for help, calling my name."
