OLATHE, KS — A school resource officer and administrator were shot Friday morning at a high school in Olathe, and a suspect has been taken into custody, police said. The shooting happened in an office area of Olathe East High School, Olathe police tweeted around 11 a.m. Friday. Parents were asked to come to 12708 S. Black Bob Road to be reunited with their students. No students were hurt, police said. Special agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the school to help investigate the shooting. Olathe East was placed under lock down around 9 a.m. due to an "active shooting situation on campus," the school district said. "Please know that law enforcement is on site and the building is secured," the district added. Gov. Laura Kelly said her thoughts were with the Olathe school community. "We are closely monitoring the situation on the ground & are in communication with law enforcement," Kelly tweeted. Olathe is about 7 miles southwest of Overland Park. The district serves about 30,000 students in Olathe, Overland Park and Lenexa. The school has about 1,900 students and serves grades 9-12. This is a developing story. Hit refresh for updates.
