Man Who Saved Jogger During Dog Attack Recognized

ST. CHARLES, IL — A St. Charles man who rescued a jogger who was viciously attacked by two large Rottweilers in December will be recognized for his brave actions. The jogger, Laura Kizman, was passing a home in the 7N300 block of Windsor Drive in St. Charles Township at about 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 13 when a Labradoodle dog first approached the 51-year-old woman. Man Shoots Dog, Saves Jogger From 'Vicious' Attack: Police She stopped and began to bring the dog back to its homeowner, who was in her driveway, according to authorities. As Kizman walked up the driveway, two dogs, both Rottweilers, ran out of the home and attacked her, according to police. The homeowner and a nearby neighbor, Chris Shanahan, who was walking by at the time of the attack, rushed to her aid but were not able to pry the dogs off of her. The attack continued for minutes before Shanahan, who has a concealed carry license, got a handgun and fired one shot at one of the dogs. Both dogs then released the woman and retreated, according to police. Kizman was transported to a hospital with a level one trauma center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. After several medical treatments, Kizman is now hopeful she will make a full recovery. Shanahan will be recognized at a Kane County Board meeting at 9:45 a.m. on March 8 where he will receive a life-saving award. Kizman is also expected to attend the event.
