PALM DESERT, CA — An alleged sex trafficker in Palm Desert remained jailed Friday morning on suspicion of pandering and other crimes, jail records show.
Dwana Denise Dominguez, 40, of Indio was arrested by Riverside County sheriff's deputies around 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the 78000 block of Varner Road in Palm Desert following a search warrant service involving a multi-agency investigation.
In addition to the felony pandering charge, Dominguez was also booked on suspicion of misdemeanor disorderly conduct/prostitution and committing a felony while on bail/post-release, according to the jail records.
She is being held at Indio's John J. Benoit Detention Center in lieu of $55,000 bail and is due to appear in court Monday.
"Prostitution is not a 'victimless' crime," the sheriff's department said. "Sex trafficking victims are often subjected not only to severe forms of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of their trafficker but are also frequently physically and sexually assaulted by those that solicit them for prostitution."
