OSWEGO, IL — A 29-year-old man attempting to sell a mobile phone early Friday morning was the victim of an armed robbery, according to Oswego police. Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Norway Place around 1:40 a.m. for a report of an armed robbery. A man, meeting someone in order to sell a phone, was in his driveway when the currently unknown person drove up in a silver SUV — which police said appeared to be an older Jeep Cherokee — stepped out holding a gun and asked about the phone. After the man handed over the phone, the person retreated toward the SUV, according to police. Authorities said a family member, concerned about the transaction taking place at a late hour, reportedly witnessed the incident. The family member, an active FOID cardholder, pointed a handgun at the offender and told him to drop the phone and leave, officials said. After, the offender dropped the phone and drove off. Police said he was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a black ski mask. Police described the man as black, about 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9, 155 pounds and between 18-20 years old. Oswego police conducted a neighborhood canvas and are asking anyone with information or video surveillance to contact officers at 630-551-7300. Anonymous reports can also be made to Kendall Crime Stoppers at 630-553-5999. People with tips leading to arrests may receive a cash reward of up to $1,000.
