Fire At Hill-Top Drive-In Theater Rubble Along Route 6

JOLIET, IL —About two-and-a-half years after Joliet's Hill-Top Drive-In movie theater along U.S. Route 6 was destroyed by a fierce storm and heavy winds, a fire broke out on the property Friday afternoon. Several East Joliet Fire Department firefighters were on the scene around 2:40 p.m. trying to extinguish the blaze. The Hill-Top had stood for decades, but an August 2020 storm destroyed about 80 percent of the concrete fortress. The theater was a popular place to watch movies during the summer back in the 1970s. By 3:30 p.m., the East Joliet Fire Department had left the scene and the fire was already out. A fire broke out Friday afternoon at the old Hill-Top Drive In Theater along Route 6. Submitted photo
