JOLIET, IL — A 38-year-old Joliet man was arrested by Joliet police early Friday morning after police say he tossed a stolen gun under his car during a traffic stop for suspected drunken driving.
Kevin Jordan Jr. is now in the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon, possessing a stolen gun, two counts of resisting arrest, DUI and two counts of obstructing a peace officer.
The incident unfolded around 2:10 a.m. on Joliet's east side at the corner of Columbia Street and Youngs Avenue.
Joliet police say Jordan was driving erratically and failed to use his turn signal.
When Jordan showed signs of being impaired by alcohol, he refused to get out of his car, despite several orders by Joliet police, authorities said.
"As Jordan continued to resist officers, he was observed tossing an object under the vehicle," police spokesman Dwayne English stated, indicating the object was a .380 caliber gun.
The gun had been reported stolen. Following his transport to Joliet's Police Department, Jordan failed alcohol sobriety tests, police said. Jordan lives in the 1000 block of Joliet's North William Street. He was booked into county detention at 4:15 a.m.
