COVID Test Kits To Be Given Out Saturday: Here's How To Get Yours

COBB COUNTY, GA — After initially postponing the distribution of COVID-19 home test kits, which was supposed to happen on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Cobb County is giving out the kits for a limited time on Saturday. The county had its first distribution event Feb. 26 in Austell, and will have another distribution event Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Piedmont Church, 570 Piedmont Road. Boxes were delivered last week to area agencies to give out to the public. Commissioners approved the $816,480 purchase of 60,480 iHealth home tests at a board meeting in January, a cost of $13.50 per kit. Cobb and Douglas Public Health officials, along with those from the Cobb County Emergency Management Agency, are working to distribute the tests gradually. CDPH is targeting communities and groups who have had challenges obtaining these test kits, a news release said. The news comes on the heels of Cobb County officials lifting the mask mandate in all Cobb government buildings, which happened Monday. Additionally, the COVID-19 emergency declaration is set to expire March 19, though county officials indicated it could expire sooner. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Biden administration also loosened federal mask guidelines Friday, recommending masks only in high-risk counties, unless you're at high risk for illness. As of publication, Cobb County is considered at medium risk.
