DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove North Principal Janice Schwarze has been named the DuPage Region High School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals' Association. The honor puts Schwarze in the running for the statewide Illinois High School Principal of the Year. Schwarze, who has been principal of Downers North for five years, is set to retire in June. Schwarze has also worked as Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction at Downers Grove North High School and as an English teacher and department chair at Downers Grove South High School. "Janice is a student-centered leader who is well respected and trusted by her fellow educators, her students and their families for her ability to lead in times of calm and times of crisis," District 99 Superintendent Dr. Hank Thiele said in a news release. "Throughout her 33 years working in education, Janice has contributed greatly to supporting and encouraging students."
