DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The village of Downers Grove condemned the actions of police involved in the death of George Floyd in a statement Tuesday. The statement read, in part, "The Village of Downers Grove unequivocally condemns and denounces the actions of the Minnesota police officer who has since been charged with murder." The statement also said, "In the past several days we have experienced an inexcusable loss of life caused by the abhorrent actions of a few police officers in Minnesota, peaceful exercising of First Amendment rights in response to this senseless death and the systemic racism unfortunately present throughout our nation, and opportunistic criminal acts such as looting and vandalism" "Along with so many, we are saddened by the recent criminal events which have taken place in Downers Grove, Chicago and cities across our country. We understand that many people are feeling frustration, anger and fear," the statement went on.
