DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove Mayor Bob Barnett imposed a mandatory 8 p.m. curfew for residents and issued a state of emergency in the wake of unrest and looting throughout neighboring communities. The curfew will be in effect until Wednesday at 6 a.m., according to an update on Facebook. Downtown businesses were advised to close at 2 p.m., and other businesses were advised to close at 5 p.m. Businesses were also encouraged to move outdoor displays, signage and furniture indoors. The update read, "For their safety, all residents are asked to stay home after 8 p.m." The Downers Grove Best Buy at 1432 Butterfield Rd. was looted by about 50 people Sunday night, police said. Nearby Naperville's downtown area was looted and damaged Monday night by rioters. Naperville police said explosive devices and bricks were thrown at police, and at least one officer was injured. Police in Naperville added that someone involved in the looting was also stabbed by another looter.
