Jobs
Boone NC
Description
This position is in the Appalachian foothills of northwest North Carolina. It is a secluded rural gated gravel road setting between Morganton, NC and Lenoir, NC. It is about 20 minutes from downtown Morganton or Lenoir and/or Interstate 40 (exits 100 to 106) and about 45 minutes from Hickory or Boone, NC. It is approximately 90 minutes from Charlotte, NC, Asheville, NC, or Winston-Salem, NC. This opportunity is not ideal for everyone. It is very hard outdoor work in an isolated rural area. The applicant must be healthy enough and strong enough for hard physical labor. No experience is required. The right person would become a partner in a small sustainable-practice farming business. Approximately 60 hours of work per month, or 15 hours per week, is required to maintain residency/employment. This is a residential work situation. This is not a tenancy. It is a revocable license to occupy based on services rendered. A stipend for food is included. This job does not come with benefits. The applicant must have outside income to pay the rest of their expenses until the business is established. Once the business is established a partner can draw an income from the business. The residence is a fully furnished private bedroom with private full bathroom and private kitchen/living area with a separate entrance, in a new single-family home on a new rural homestead. Single occupancy only. No couples. No children. Utilities and Wi-Fi included. Free washer and dryer access. No pets, no smoking, no illegal drugs, no excessive alcohol allowed on the premises. No loud anything. Must be clean, quiet, and respectful. The homestead is approximately 35 acres of gently sloping land including a small stream. The land is covered with brush and small trees. The plan is to clear about 25 acres of trees and brush to create sustainable pasture. No heavy equipment except a 40 hp tractor is used, so it is difficult and slow work. The cleared land will be pasture for beef and goats and space for no-till horticulture. If interested, reply with a brief description of your personal and work history. Follow up interviews will be conducted in person after posting has expired (approximately 30 days from first posting). A background investigation will be conducted. An employment agreement is required.
