We are currently in search of a (30-40hr week) Pig Herd Manager here at von Trapp Farmstead. www.vontrappfarmstead.com We are looking for the best possible candidate to be part of our team. Our pig team is responsible for raising a herd of approximately 50 of the healthiest, tastiest, heritage breed, whey fed pigs. Responsibilities include: Head of daily chores and management - organizing staff feeding schedule (2x a day 7 days a week) - acquiring resources (hay, grain, plumbing supplies, vet calls etc) - maintaining/ building infrastructure - fences, buildings, whey stuff - delivering whey - acquiring veggies (daily veg pickups) - keep work truck fuel filled Livestock procurement - work with local farrowers to source appropriate amount of piglets between months of March- December - find craigslist pigs when necessary (VT ONLY!) Inventory management - cut sheets / slaughter dates - working with partner processors to set up production schedules and pulling product accordingly (salami, sausages, bacon, whole muscle) - pork product R + D - sausages, salami, whole muscle offerings - keep store inventory stocked - manage whole sale accounts - keep 3 pallets of inventory at food hub organized and accounted for (1st in 1st out) Potential Milking shifts for candidate with prior milking experience to make a full time job. Possible Extra duties - deliver local meat/cheese/ yogurt - process firewood - help with hay (summer) - shovel paths/ drainage ways - help coworkers where needed We are looking for an honest, hard working, reliable individual to join our team. Positive attitude a must. Animal husbandry experience required (preferably pigs) Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly. A willingness to learn is essential. Farm tractor experience preferred. Chainsaw experience preferred. Must like working with pigs. Must enjoy working outdoors. Flexibility on weekend scheduling required. Must be willing to reside locally Competitive wages (Starting wage $20+/hr with experience) Animals need to be fed everyday of the week, some minimal weekend work is required. We offer two consecutive days off in a row and we do our best to give everyone some holidays off but a willingness to work others is necessary.
