Description
What makes a record sound great?
It’s the performance.
Perfect records come from perfect performances.
But are the performances perfect?
They’re not perfect, they’re just the right kind of sloppy.
Does a good record come from the good mics?
a Neumann U87, the fanciest mic- makes it good.
Wrong.
These things are pieces of the puzzle.
The puzzle needs to come out perfect.
The perfect kind of sloppy. The perfect kind of bad.
More production ideologies:
You need to let an amp warm up before recording.
You can make a great sounding record with very cheap equipment (a 150 dollar interface, a karaoke mic)
You need to spend months writing songs before you can even begin to try recording them.
Please forget these ideologies- and learn for yourself.
If you need help making your records sound great- don’t lock yourself into old production ideologies.
Learn by doing- use your ear. Take the steps necessary to make it your own- don’t ruin it by making
decisions that paint you into a corner.
Let me know if you need help.
