He will have it as a protectorate, but it will hardly end them being a constant irritant. The western nations will sanction the hell out of him, which will indeed hurt the good Russian people, and the good citizens of those countries as well. The Democrats who felt the same about Trump as you do about Putin will be dismayed as he rises (once more) from the ashes, is re-elected in 2024, the House and Senate fall to extremist Trump followers, all the sanctions against Russia are removed, and Trump finally gets his Moscow Trump Hotel to leave as his legacy to his grandchildren, who will of course be politicians themselves.
