The United States Selective Service System has local Board Member vacancies in Philadelphia, Chester, Delaware Montgomery and Bucks counties. An important component of the Selective Service System is its citizen volunteers who make up the Local Boards. A Selective Service Local Board is a group of five citizen volunteers whose mission. Upon a draft, will be to decide who among the registrants in their community will receive deferments, postponements or exemption from military service based on the individual registrant's circumstances and beliefs. Local Board members are appointed by the Director of the Selective Service on recommendation made by their respective State governor. If you are interested in serving as a Local Board member, you may apply on line for an applicant package. Some requirements to be a board member are: U.S. Citizen At least 18 years Not a retired or active member of the Armed Forces or any Reserve component Live in the area where the board has jurisdiction Be able to devote sufficient time to accomplish Board Member duties For more information or to complete an application form, please visit the www.SSS.gov website and click the Volunteers tab and the "Read More" tab under the Local Board Member heading.
