Description

This is a fundraiser to provide scholarships, stipend opportunities and field experiences for students in the the JVMP department. JVMP First Annual Video Showcase and Awards Gala Honoring the First Program Graduates Class of 2022 SIMPLY THE BEST! Archbishop Carroll High School’s Jim Vance Media Program (JVMP) will host its first annual Video Showcase and Awards, themed “Simply the Best,” as a scholarship fundraiser to exhibit the work of the students, known as Vance Scholars on April, 23, 2022, 5-9 pm. All tickets are $50.00 with hors d’oeuvres, photo ops and a tour of the studio spaces from 5-7pm and the event showcase will be in the McMahon Theater, 7 – 9 pm. Donations can also be made to support the event (Eventbrite link). From freshman to senior level, students write articles for print, conduct interviews, produce PSA’s, news features and documentaries, as well as, their own individual creative works that will be selected for awards and prizes. This event will prove to be much like the “Emmy Awards,” for JVMP and JVMP Club students in order to provide incentive for submitting their BEST work when completing assignments and to reward them by showcasing their efforts for family, friends and the community. Vance Scholars will submit work that addresses the various categories for each grade level and they will be judged by members of the advisory committee. All entries in each category will be announced during the ceremony and the top five (5) nominees in each category will be spotlighted and receive certificates. However, the first place winner will receive the Legacy Award. Additionally, the Class of 2022 will be the first graduates who have completed the four-year program, and their bodies of work will be the highlight of the showcase. 100% of the ticket sales and monetary donations, will go towards the awards, monetary gifts and future scholarship/stipend opportunities for Vance Scholars in the program in the JVMP department. It is our desire to host this event annually and it can only be done with your assistance. As we continue to develop, grow and pass the torch to generations of students in the future, we would like this first effort to be the launching pad for continued recognition and fundraising for our young people. The JVMP officially launched on December 7, 2018, with a director and 11 students. To date, we have three teachers, 40 students. Each year, we accept 20 new incoming freshmen from middle schools, with scholarship opportunities available. Our advisory committee is a group who represent the best journalism, entrepreneurs, engineers, media professionals and educators who incorporate top leaders in digital technologies across local, national and global platforms, as well as, public relations and business contexts. Archbishop Carroll High School is a Catholic (ACHS), college preparatory, co-educational school in the Archdiocese of Washington that welcomes young people and empowers them academically rigorous, diverse and supportive learning environment. Established in 1951, ACHS led by example as one of the first DC schools to defy segregation before the landmark civil rights Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education declared it unconstitutional. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the school’s history.
