Ever want to know more about this lo-fi sensation with a cult following? Look no further than this four-week-long workshop series.
This four-week-long class will introduce you to the basic techniques on how to use this little plastic gem with projects that will help you familiarize yourself with the camera, as well as inspire you to experiment and think out of the box. Holga images can have light leaks, imperfections, and sometimes unexpected results, so be prepared to think about your work in a new way, let loose and try new things!
Students will have an opportunity to process their own film during the initial workshop session, with support from the instructor. For the subsequent critique sessions, students will be expected to process their own film and either scan their negatives or print them in the darkroom. Students should already have knowledge of how to do these techniques on their own, as darkroom time will mostly be facilitated by a lab monitor, not an instructor. Class project critiques will be done virtually, so internet and computer access are required. Don’t have a Holga? Don’t fear. One can be found on eBay, Etsy, Amazon, or KEH Camera. Don’t wait to order as one can sometimes take a couple of weeks to arrive. The Holga used for this class will be the 120N. It is suggested to purchase (3) rolls of 120mm Black and White film to start, as there will be (3) projects.
