Movement & Breath Join us for an evening inspired by Joseph Morris' Emotive Machines. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Featuring: Bleevable Prana, ODU Recreation & Wellness, Ben Dickerson, Sharan Asundi, Ph.D. Workshops begin every half-hour (5:00pm, 5:30pm, 6:00pm, 6:30pm, 7:00pm, 7:30pm) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Yoga with Bleevable Prana During this 30-minute session, participants will slowly explore seven yoga movements through intentionally moving, cognition of body placement, sounds, and their breathing. The focus will be on senses. Movement involves sitting still on the floor, standing still, and lying still. Yoga mats provided and sanitized between sessions. Breathwork with Bleevable Prana During this 30-minute session, participants will explore different breathing techniques to help calm anxiety, build confidence, boost energy, and aid in sleeping. Earthquake Architecture with Ben Dickerson This Workshop brings focus to the 3 Bodyweight Centers of the human body and the relationship that each has on human architecture inspired by the work of Fighting Monkey. Starting with the act of standing and working from within, we will explore ways in which we are able to organize and creatively solve problems in a playful context while developing coordination and integrated biomechanics. Check out Fightingmonkey.net for some of the principles we will be exploring together. Communicative Strength with Ben Dickerson We are constantly looking for better communication with ourselves and others in order to further our understanding of life. During this time we will interact with partners in order to build collaborative narratives while moving through space. Utilizing objects and simple constraints we will decipher “sentences” through bodyweight movement. Breathwork with Sharan Asundi, Ph.D. We have all experienced stress, anxiety, and even depression to some extent. For most of us, the pandemic and the lockdowns have been really hard. Although we are slowly coming out of the pandemic, we may continue to experience the fatigue and tiredness for a long duration. Come experience the power of breathwork and meditation to feel alive. We will learn about SKY Breath Meditation, a powerful practice which is shown to alleviate stress/anxiety and improve the quality of your life. Breath in Movement with Ashley Federico, ODU Yoga & Jordan Spruill, ODU Dance Let’s take a dive deeper into how our breath affects our posture, our mental well-being, and our overall wellness. Yoga has been used for thousands of years to teach us how to properly take care of ourselves on every level- with our core focus on breath. Let us teach you the fundamentals then put this practice into action through dance! Breathwork is single-handedly the most important part of raising awareness towards well-being as it not only increases our stamina but can also help us relieve everyday stressors and come back to a state of homeostasis. Come join us and learn how to properly breathe while you move today!
