Description

Join us for a fun evening painting with Jake Patton! All over town you’ve seen artwork and murals from talented Fort Wayne artists and thought to yourself, “I wish I could paint like that!” Well, here’s your chance to create magic with local artist Jake Patton! On Friday, April 1, at 7pm join us for Canvas & Canapes in the First Presbyterian Church gallery, 300 W. Wayne Street. Create an unofficial “Jake” on canvas, and have a statement piece that is sure to make all your friends jealous! Jake Patten was one of six children born to a traveling evangelist. After his family finally created roots in Fort Wayne and graduating from Snider High School, Jake enrolled in the United States Marine Corps where he spent several years serving his country. Upon returning to Fort Wayne and settling in the West Central neighborhood, where he still resides today, Jake started attending art shows, galleries and getting to know many of the artists that reside in the neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, he was encouraged to try his hand at painting and the rest is history. Jake’s works are mixed media on canvas or panel and range in size from very small to extremely large. Jake’s goal with his work is to bring people of all ages together and encourage them to find their own stories in his works. The hope is that they will share amongst one another their interpretations of the characters and situations that play out on canvas, and in turn creating art dialogue and the opportunity to see art from others’ perspectives. Jake runs his own successful art company called Jake Art. He’s sold his own unique style of Basquiat or Neo-expressionism inspired artwork all over the country and has painted his recognizable work on buildings throughout the city. This is the first of many First Fridays @ First Pres events, an initiative created to share First Presbyterian Church’s passion for the arts and the community. Space is limited to 20 people. The cost is $30 per person and that includes all painting materials and refreshments, but feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks if you like (wink wink).
