We're BACK! The 27th School and Community Counseling Conference will have speakers from the Campaign for Southern Equality. Register NOW! The last few years have seen a blossoming of diversity in gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, and young people are on the leading edge of that change. At the same time, the expression of LGBTQ+ identities at school and in the curriculum have become an increasingly volatile subject. As helping professionals and educators, how can we best support the children and youth who have been thrown into the front lines of the culture wars? How do we create school environments that welcome and celebrate students of every identity? What is our role in working with parents, administrators, and other staff and faculty? A team of 4 dynamic facilitators from The Campaign for Southern Equality will help us explore: Understanding the growing diversity of gender identity and expressionBest practices for supportive schools and classroomsTitle IX protections for LGBTQ+ students, staff, and facultyTouchpoints for counselors and social workers when navigating complex student, school, and family dynamicsThe Campaign for Southern Equality’s mission is to support the legal and lived equality of LGBTQ+ people in the South.
