Migration Watch: Birding at the Fort Missoula Ponds.
Hosted by Learning with Meaning
Did you know Fort Missoula hosts one of the largest migratory waterfowl migration stops in the Missoula valley! The Fort Missoula Ponds complex is an exceptional biodiversity hotspot that attracts over 30 species of ducks, geese, and swans during migration, as well as an impressive variety of loons, grebes, cormorants, and even shorebirds.
This spring join Learning with Meaning, the Montana Natural History Center, Clark Fork Coalition, and Five Valley Audubon for a series of migration watch birding events highlighting the importance of this portion of the Bitterroot river corridor.
Join us on March 10, April 7, and April 28, Thursday afternoons from 3:30m-4:30 pm. High-powered spotting scopes, binoculars, and field guides will be provided, but feel free to bring your birding gear!
We will meet at the Learning with Meaning property, which provides an excellent vantage point for observation immediately adjacent to the west side of the ponds. We will guide visitors to a viewpoint over the Ponds from 2801 40th Ave.
