APWA and SAME St. Louis Post Joint Meeting: Thursday, March 17, 2022 APWA and SAME St. Louis Post Joint Meeting: Thursday, March 17, 2022 Presentation: Engineering Veterans and Transitioning Soldiers May Be The Answer To Your Job Recruitment Needs Engineering veterans and transitioning soldiers, who trained at the Fort Leonard Wood engineering school, were taught valuable skill sets that can be easily transitioned in the private sector, state, and local governments. The first half of the presentation will focus on the engineering school curriculum that imparts knowledge and practical skills sets involving soils and concrete materials, CADD, geospatial computer programs, and land surveying. The second half of the presentation will address the Transitions Services Programs that fall under the DoD SkillBridge Program offered by the U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood and Scott Air Force Base where transitioning service men and women can intern for private and public organizations for six months at no cost to that organization. Potential employers can submit their job openings to the Transitions Services Programs to recruit veterans and transitioning soldiers. All military services use Fort Leonard Wood’s engineering school. Presenters: The Commander, LTC Vanessa Bowman, of the engineering school will present on the engineering school’s curriculum. Mr. Walter Harris, Ft. Leonard Wood’s Transition Services Manager, will present on the Transitions Assistance Program and how to submit job announcements into the Army’s system. Ms. Madeline Hartung, Transition Assistance Program (TAP) at Scott AFB will present on Air Force’s program and how to submit job announcements into their system.
