Being diagnosed with a chronic health condition can be scary. Often, it leaves more questions than answers. Like, "Is it safe to Exercise?" Being diagnosed with a chronic health condition can be scary. Often, it leaves more questions than answers. So, what is a “chronic condition”? The CDC defines a chronic disease as a disease that last 1 year or more and requires ongoing medical attention or limits activities of daily living. The most common chronic conditions in the United States are heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. The list does not stop there. There are many other chronic conditions that also cause an increase in pain/debility such as Osteoarthritis, low back pain, Alzheimer’s, and SO many more. In our presentation, we will cover the basics of exercise and how to understand the terminology behind recommendations. We will then dive into the most common chronic conditions and discuss how certain types of exercises can be helpful. The biggest thing to remember is that you are unique. If you have questions and concerns and find yourself having a hard time completing your activities throughout the day, it is time to see a Doctor of Physical Therapy!
