Description
Introducing TradeswHERk, a community initiative to increase encouragement, training and job opportunities for women in the skilled trades. Important: This is a THURSDAY event at Lively Technical College, March 10, 11am-2pm. As we enter the infrastructure decade, make no mistake that jobs in the skilled trades are currently, and will continue to be, huge fields of economic empowerment and job security. And they are growing. Women currently only make up less than 3% of the workforce in the skilled trades. But shortages of such workers during an unprecedented period of overwhelming demand, provides a long overdue oppHERtunity for entry of women to these powHERful well-paid jobs and business opportunities in the skilled trades. Doing so not only empowers women and families, it solves a pressing market need for our community and country that will be welcomed. So let’s just make it happen. Introducing TradeswHERk, a community initiative to increase encouragement, training and job opportunities for women in the skilled trades. Please join us for the launch of TradeswHERk at Lively Technical College (LTC) on Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 11am to 2pm (11-12 Panel Discussion, 12-12:30 Refreshment and Networking), 12:30-2, Tour of LTC). A two part panel discussion starts with Shelly Bell, Director of Lively Technical, Kim Moore, VP of Workforce Development and Commissioner Curtis Richardson. They will then be joined by members of NAWIC Tallahassee (National Association of Women in Construction) Kerwyn Jones Wilson of Jones Construction and Design, Kyndra Light of Precision Building, Pamela Jones Smith of Bernexis, Jackie Wilson of Metronet and Jackie Watts, Mechanical Supervisor for the City of Tallahassee. A wide array of partners from education, construction and community will engage and share ideas. After refreshments and networking, Manny Joanos, Coordinator of Public Relations at LTC, will take those interested on a tour of related training facilities. An opportunity to schedule future tours of TCC Workforce Development will be made available. Whether for yourself, your daughters, empowering women, or strengthening our community vibrancy, join us! Let’s get to wHERk! Event location: Lively Technical College, Professional Technical Building (PTC), Building 9. Ample nearby visitor parking. Signage and staff will help you easily find your way!
