BLUE POINT, NY — At a February Town of Brookhaven town board meeting, plans for a brand new Blue Point recreational park were approved.
The town park will be built on a vacant lot on Park Street, formerly the site of a laundry business, seized by the town in 1998 for non-payment of taxes.
Brookhaven Councilman Neil Foley told Newsday that town will build basketball and pickleball courts, walking trails and maybe skateboarding facilities at the park.
The Blue Point Community Civic Association was one group that had spearheaded efforts to turn the decades-long empty site into a park that could be used by the community. The "Roe Park" project has been in the works for 20 years, the group says on their community Facebook page.
