WAKEFIELD, MA — Students at Northeastern Metro Tech were dismissed early after something resembling a Molotov cocktail was found thrown into a window Thursday morning.
Superintendent David DiBarri and Wakefield Police Chief Steven Skory said police were investigating the vandalism and attempted arson.
School officials found a broken window and damage to a school conference room when students and staff were arriving Thursday morning. Police were immediately notified.
An investigation indicated a vandal broke the window, damaged the room and threw or broke a glass bottle filled with an unknown substance made to look like a Molotov cocktail.
The decision to dismiss students early from the Wakefield tech school was made out of abundance of caution, officials said.
The school serves students in Wakefield, Melrose, Stoneham, Malden, Reading, Woburn, North Reading, Winchester, Chelsea, Revere, Saugus and Winthrop.
