Woman With Dementia Lets Burglar Into Miami Home: Police

MIAMI, FL — A woman suffering from dementia allowed a burglar into her Miami home while her son, the homeowner, was at work, Miami police said in a news release. On Jan. 31, the suspect approached the woman, who was on the front porch of her home in the 200 block of Southwest 38th Court and asked her in Spanish if he could use the bathroom. Thinking he was a relative, she let him in, police said. After using the bathroom, the suspect went into her son's bedroom and took several items from the nightstand, including cash and credit cards, as well as three guns, police said. The suspect left the home a few minutes later through the front door and drove off in a white Ford F-350 utility truck. When her son returned home, he noticed that three of his guns were stolen and that several of his credit cards were missing, police said. The suspect was a 40- to 50-year-old man who weighed about 200 pounds. He was wearing an aqua-colored facial covering, a white ball cap, a construction vest and long, tan shorts.
