Description
Two easy ways to prepare your business for moving day.
Moving is a stressful time for everyone. It can be challenging to try and juggle moving and work, but moving doesn’t have to be as challenging as it seems. With the proper preparation, you can ensure your employees are prepared for their move and help make the day go smoother.
Step One — Categorize Belongings
Three simple ways to organize:
Items for Storage — look around, not everything has to be moved. Think: Records, Tax Returns, Receipts etc. Your Accountant will thank you later!Items to Move — Use Post It’s and write people’s names on what they own, then start to pack. It will make unpacking so much easier.Junk — Do you really need all of those old phones you’ve been hoarding? How about all of the wires and cables and mouses? Hmmm
Give each employee a plastic bin to place personal items, identify an area in the office to place items to be stored–and finally, place large bins around the office to collect trash and recycling.
Step Two — Manage Expectations
Send out a company-wide email informing employees of the move. This email should include information such as: when the move is taking place, what to expect on moving day, and what their responsibilities are. Think of it as a “Moving Day Timeline”
Hold a pre-moving day meeting to explain the process and answer any questions. It’s also good time for employees to meet the moving company and get familiar with their procedures. There will be questions and what better way to save time then by making sure everyone is on the same page.
For general safety reasons, we do not recommend having your employees present while movers are in process. You can have company leadership or people overseeing the process, but movers will always be more efficient with less people milling around.
