Wrong-Way Driver Stopped On Highway In Orange: State Police

ORANGE, CT — A 77-year-old driver was spotted traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 15 in Orange early Wednesday morning, according to State Police. In a Facebook post, State Police said a trooper from Troop I noticed the wrong-way driver around 2:30 a.m. near Exit 57 in Orange. According to State Police, the trooper entered the southbound lane at Exit 58 and paralleled the driver with his emergency lights and siren activated. He also reported the vehicle's location to other responding troopers. A second trooper ultimately helped bring the wrong-way driver to a safe stop. State Police noted the driver appeared disoriented and was taken to St. Raphael's Hospital for evaluation. The driver's license was confiscated and will be submitted to the state Department of Motor Vehicles for review, according to State Police. "Wrong-way drivers are not a new issue," the post reads. "Police across the U.S. have seen wrong-way drivers for more than a century. We encourage anyone who witnesses a wrong-way driver to call 911 immediately and provide the location of the wrong-way vehicle. If you see oncoming headlights while traveling on a limited access highway, safely pull over to the right shoulder, if possible. While traveling, especially at night, driving in the center or right lane can help keep you safe, as wrong-way operators often drive in the left lane, believing they are in the right lane."
