Your Arlington Last Updated: 03 March 2022 Written by Robert Mills An investigation into alleged drug sales to Arlington youth has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Arlington man, who is charged with distributing marijuana and illegally possessing a firearm. In a March 2 news release, Chief Julie Flaherty named Ryan John Darcy after investigators recovered more than 45 grams of marijuana, $240 in cash and a loaded 9mm handgun. Investigators were able to obtain social-media contact information for a possible suspect, and while acting in an undercover capacity, officers made contact with the suspect, later identified as Darcy, and arranged to purchase an amount of marijuana. On Wednesday, March 2, at about 12:30 p.m., Darcy advised undercover officers that he would meet them in the Thorndike Field parking lot on Margaret Street. A short time later, Darcy arrived in the parking area in a vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle, and after an on-scene investigation Darcy was taken into custody without incident. "The Arlington Police Department works tirelessly to protect our children from the dangers of substance use through both education and enforcement," said Flaherty said in the release. "We will never tolerate this kind of activity where drugs are allegedly being distributed to youth, and I am proud of the officers who quickly and effectively brought this investigation to a successful conclusion. The charges are possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, carrying a firearm without a license and fugitive from justice on a court warrant. Earlier this week, the Arlington school resource officer and members of the Arlington Police Criminal Investigations Bureau began investigating allegations of illegal drug sales to children. Darcy is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, March 3, in Cambridge District Court.
