Driver Found With Drugs, $2.6K In Cash After Stop: Hamden Police

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop Tuesday night in Hamden, according to police. Officers Keron Bryce and Michael Vivenzio were on a high visibility patrol assignment around 9:30 p.m. as part of the Hamden Police Department's Crime Deterrent Unit when they stopped a car on Beacon Street near Dixwell Avenue for "misuse of a license plate on an unregistered motor vehicle," according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Dolan said the car did not initially pull over when police activated their emergency lights. The driver, identified as Antrum Coston, began to resist officers and tried to get away, according to Dolan. Coston was secured by officers and arrested. During the arrest, police seized a "large bag of narcotics," including 100 wax folds of suspected heroin, 55 bags of "crack" cocaine and 11 bags of powder cocaine, according to Dolan. Dolan said Coston was also in the possession of $2,650 cash at the time of his arrest, which was also seized in conjunction with the investigation. Coston, 39, was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell and interfering with police. He was also charged with failure to renew registration, improper use of a marker plate and disobeying the signal of an officer. He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond with a court date of April 5.
