GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is investigating a case of mail theft which occurred late last month and was reported this week, police said. A package was stolen from the front door of a home on Lower Cross Road around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, according to Capt. Mark Zuccerella of the GPD. Zuccerella said a suspect, according to security footage in the area, is described as a white female with dark colored hair, who was wearing a long black coat and black and white sneakers at the time. Mail theft is part of a trend that has been seen in Greenwich and neighboring towns recently, Zuccerella said. Thieves are also targeting checks so they can alter them and cash them for higher sums. "The only people who should be putting stuff in or out of a mailbox is the postal worker or homeowner," Zuccerella said. He added that if residents see something out of the ordinary, to say something to police and try to get a license plate of the thieves if possible. The GPD's non-emergency number is 203-622-8004. 911 should only be used for emergencies.
