The Alzheimer's Association, Greater Maryland Chapter, is BGE's 2022 Cause Partner. BGE employees choose recipients for the $200,000 grant from the Exelon Company. The award supports the Association's annual fundraisers, Walk to End Alzheimer's®, alz.org/maryland/walk, and The Longest Day®, alz.org/longestday. Alzheimer's is the nation's 6th leading cause of death A BGE-created video for employees includes statistics about the disease, featuring interviews with two workers impacted by the disease. Stephanie Leach, a principal business analyst, whose grandfather died from Alzheimer's disease, states, "It's a cause that is close to my heart," adding that there were others at the company affected by the disease. Among those affected employees is David Purdie, a senior field meter services representative, who shares that his mother died from dementia. "She always had a big smile when I walked into the room," he states, recalling a poignant moment with his mother. "I was talking with her and left the room for a moment, and when I returned, she didn't know who I was." David McShea, executive director of the Greater Maryland Chapter, says, "Being the 2022 Cause Partner extends our ability to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other dementia while providing education and support services to the more than 110,000 affected Marylanders. These funds help improve the lives of countless families, and BGE's generosity is humbling."
