Description

Press release from the City of Austin: February 28, 2022 The Austin Police Department (APD) is excited to announce that we will be joining the "30x30 Initiative". Historically, women have been under-represented in the ranks of law enforcement based on demographic data. Currently, APD is made up of 11% female officers, and we want to improve that. The 30×30 Initiative is a coalition of police leaders, researchers, and professional organizations who have joined together to advance the representation and experiences of women in policing agencies across the United States. Our ultimate goal is to increase the representation of women in police recruit classes to 30% by 2030, and to ensure police policies and culture intentionally support the success of qualified women officers throughout their careers. Chief Chacon will be signing the 30x30 pledge at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders located at 2309 Panther Trail at 12:30 p.m. on March 2, 2022, and will be available for media interviews immediately after. Additionally the Austin Police Department Recruiting Unit will feature a different female APD officer every day in March for Women's Month. Please follow us on social media @joinapd to see the featured officers. This press release was produced by the City of Austin. The views expressed here are the author's own.
