Watsonville Earth Month Offers Opportunity To Adopt Trees

WATSONVILLE, CA — Watsonville will host a number of Earth Month activities in April, including the opportunity to adopt a tree. On Saturday, April 9th, the Trash Talkers will host a neighborhood cleanup. On Saturday, April 23, Watsonville Wetlands Watch will host a wetlands restoration, home composting workshop, and fruit tree giveaway. On Monday, April 25, the city will host a nature walk through the wetlands, and on Friday, April 29, there will be a bike party around the town. Exact times and locations will soon be posted on the @watsonvillenaturecenter Instagram account. Watsonville residents could become tree parents thanks to a partnership program between the City of Watsonville and Watsonville Wetlands Watch program offering free fruit and shade trees for residents to plant in their homes. Residents can adopt trees by joining in-person monthly tree adoption workshops teaching residents how to care for their trees. The next workshop will take place on March 26 at 2 p.m. at 120 2nd St., or on April 23 at Callaghan Park. Since the partnership began in 2017, a total of 415 new trees have been planted in Watsonville, according to the program website.
