DEERFIELD, IL — Like every other municipality in Illinois, the Village of Deerfield has been dealing with its own unique data points regarding the coronavirus. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 307 people have contracted COVID-19 in Deerfield since the outbreak began. That's an increase of two cases since Aug. 28. For further comparison, there was an increase of nine cases between Aug. 14-21. The Lake County Health Department reports there have been 14,772 confirmed cases in Lake County. That's an increase of 552 cases since Aug. 28. For further comparison, there was an increase of 563 cases between Aug. 21-28. In addition, there have been 450 deaths, marking an increase of 10 since Aug. 21. For further comparison, there was an increase of four deaths between Aug. 21-28. Recovered cases are defined as persons with initial positive specimen collection date greater than 42 days who have not expired. The Recovery rate is calculated as the recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and total deceased cases. That number represents an increase of 353 tests since Aug. 28. For further comparison, there was an increase of 429 tests between Aug. 21-28. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, 10 people have died due to COVID-19 in the Cook County portion of Deerfield since April 6. The last death was on July 22. As of Friday, there have been 20 coronavirus-related cases in the Cook County portion of Deerfield, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health. The Illinois Department of Public Health reports there have been 2,114 confirmed coronavirus cases in long-term care facilities in Lake County. There have been 319 deaths in these facilities. Earlier this week, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced a slowdown in data processing within IDPH systems affected the reporting of COVID-19 tests due to the large volume of testing occurring in Illinois. As a result, 5,368 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Illinois Friday, including 29 additional confirmed deaths. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Aug. 28 – Sept. 3 is 4.1 percent. Using a 7-day rolling average for this metric helps account for any variation in day to day data collection, such as a data processing slowdown, and provides the public and decisions makers with a consistent picture of trends over time. As of Thursday, 1,621 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 360 patients were in the ICU and 155 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 149,273 specimens for a total of 4,309,941.
