JOLIET, IL — More than a week after being charged with a 2019 drug-induced homicide, 30-year-old Joliet resident Dakota Smith has not been taken into custody by the Office of Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley. A bench warrant, setting bail at $250,000, was issued Feb. 25 for Smith, who resides in the 3100 block of Joliet's September Drive. Smith's three felony charges are: drug-induced homicide and two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Will County's indictment states that on March 6, 2019, Smith knowingly and unlawfully delivered fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl to Edward Strysik "and Edward Strysik thereafter injected, inhaled, absorbed or ingested any amount of that fentanyl and fentanyl acetyl into his body and said injection, inhalation, absorption or ingestion of the fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl caused the death of Edward Strysik." According to his obituary, Joliet resident Eddie Strysik died March 7, 2019. He was born in Joliet and graduated from Plainfield Central High School where he played football and baseball. "Eddie loved fishing, playing the guitar, listening to music, and following all the Chicago sports teams. His love of the Chicago Cubs will be a tribute to his grandfather forever," according to the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home obituary. The other two felony drug charges state that Smith delivered heroin and Fentanyl on March 6, 2019. In addition to facing drug-induced homicide charges, Smith also has an upcoming pretrial hearing in connection with his January 2021 arrest at the Route 59 Walmart by Joliet police.
