Sauk Village Partners With DOT For Pedestrian Improvements

SAUK VILLAGE, IL — The Department of Transportation and Highways will help Sauk Village officials design a pedestrian-friendly Sauk Trail, officials announced. According to the DOT, Sauk Village was given $100,000 in 2021 to put towards an engineering study of Sauk Trail and Torrence Avenue. The money, which came from the Invest in Cook program, will fund a study on how to make the highly trafficked areas more walkable. In the coming months, residents can expect sidewalk gaps to be filled along the northern and southern sides of Sauk Trail as well was gaps filled on the east and west sides of Torrence Avenue. The design study will also look into adding pedestrian countdown signals, curb ramps and new crosswalks. Officials are in phase one of the project and did not immediately give an estimated date when improvements would be complete by.
